Rodolfo Vieira returns to BJJ for CBD invitational
On October 20th Black Belt CBD will be holding their first annual Black Belt CBD Invitational event in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The card is being headlined with a superfight between UFC veterans Forest Griffin and Frank Mir. However it is the return to competitive Gi grappling of Rodolfo Vieira that BJJ are looking forward to most.
Rodolfo has not competed in the Gi since 2014 in order to focus on MMA. He is currently 4-0 in MMA and seems to be on track for a career in the UFC. He is a 5 time world champion in the Gi and is famous for his pressure passing and explosive takedowns. It is not clear if this is a one off return to grappling for Rodolfo or if we will see more of him on the grappling invite circuit as the prize money continues to increase.
He has been drawn against Australian grappler Kit Dale in the first round semi final and will most likely face Mahamed Aly in the final if he gets passed Dale. This potential final match up is a mouth watering prospect for BJJ fans as Rodolfo and Aly have 2 similar styles and Aly is coming off an incredible performance at the WSOG 2 event, where he claimed the $20k first place prize.
The event boasts a whopping $30k cash prize for the winner of the male and female brackets. This is an incredible prize for an invitational and is significant in that it seems to be the first competition of this nature offering the same prize to both male and female winners.
The card also includes other top BJJ talent such as Edwin Najmi, Ana Vieira, Bia Mesquita, DJ Jackson and Gilbert Burns.
The good news for fans is that the event will be streamed for free on the Black Belt CBD Facebook page.
